Dr. Bill Spotz, founder and principal consultant at Spotz Scientific
Background

From research scientist to federal program manager.

Bill Spotz received his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995, with a specialization in computational fluid dynamics. He then spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher and three years as a project scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, where he developed improvements to global atmosphere models for climate modeling systems.

He joined Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque as a member of the technical staff, contributing to a wide range of modeling and simulation projects. His most significant contribution at Sandia was building the institution's climate modeling program from the ground up.

As a program manager at the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Scientific Computing Research office, Dr. Spotz co-led the applied mathematics program. Over eight years in that role, he managed almost $300M in scientific computing research spanning high-performance computing, scientific machine learning, and data analysis. He brings that program-side perspective to every consulting engagement.
